The Washington Antiquarian Booksellers' Association (WABA) was founded to publicize the used, collectible and antiquarian book trade in the Greater Washington DC - Baltimore Metropolitan region. This includes the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia, within a 75 mile radius of the White House. Many stores keep regular hours, as specified. However, a number of booksellers are noted as being available by appointment only (consider calling well in advance to be sure that they will be available), or mail-order/internet only. Most member listings include links to email and websites.
This region is especially rich in resources for the bibliophile. There are many world renowned libraries, such as the Library of Congress, the National Library of Medicine, the Folger Shakespeare Library, in Washington, Enoch Pratt Library and the Peabody Conservatory Library in Baltimore, to name but a few. There are major universities and "think tanks", and research institutions covering the entire spectrum of the fields of knowledge from the physical sciences to the social sciences to the humanities and the arts.
Many of our dealer/members have had professional roles in these institutions and bring their experiences to their trade. What's more, these resources and our members are concentrated in a relatively compact area easily accessible by an excellent system of roads and public transportation.
